LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to take strict action against the culprits selling sub-standard milk, mineral water, poultry feed and using injections to enhance the animals’ milk production.
The two-member bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the orders. During the hearing, PFA’s Director Operations Ayesha Mumtaz submitted that the authority was taking action against sale of adulterated milk and other products.
“The PFA recently sealed two dried milk factories – Premier and Millac foods – over violations of the law and their case was pending before the Lahore High Court (LHC).
She said that two laboratories were available to check the food-standards whereas two more state-of-the-art laboratories – for the same purpose – would be ready by 2018.
The bench appreciated the PFA’s steps to check sub-standard food items and observed that the violators did not deserve any leniency and further asked the PFA to continue their efforts to check sub-standard food.
The court adjourned further hearing and directed the LHC for deciding the dried milk companies’ cases within one month.
