ISLAMABAD: Access to resources is important to encourage women for playing a pro-active role in prosperity of Pakistan.
Women are proving to be remarkable in various fields, such as researchers, health professionals, scientists, legislators etc., despite facing number of problems. But their contribution can be increased with ensuring ample opportunities. World Health Organisation Country Director Dr Lamia Mahmoud said this while addressing a seminar on “The Role of Girls and Young Women in National Development and its Social Impacts” on Wednesday.
She said that Quaid-e-Azam quoted that no nation can progress without equal participation of women, which is a golden ideology to be accepted by everyone. Women like Fatima Jinnah, Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Samina Khai Baig, the first mountaineer who climbed Mount Everest. “Improved literacy rate would improve the confidence of women which would have long term effects on the society,” she said.
National Forum for Women With Disabilities (NFWWD) Chairperson Abia Akram said, “Education is a fundamental right of every child but unfortunately, women with disabilities are not be able to avail it due to the discriminatory behaviour of our social.”
She urged that women with disabilities should be involved at all level inclusively rather than separating them from society as special persons. “Disability is not a weakness and discrimination on the basis of it is not justified,” she commented.
