ISLAMABAD: Security forces on Saturday thwarted a plot to launch a major terror attack in Lahore on Easter Sunday, after an army raid in the city killed a suspected militant.
A gunbattle broke out during an overnight operation by security forces in a building in Lahore, killing a suspected militant and leaving four soldiers wounded.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), intelligence agencies personnel conducted a raid near Punjab Housing Society in Lahore and foiled a major terror bid on eve of Easter.
“During the raid, one terrorist was gunned-down, while a woman was held. During the operation four jawans including two officers sustained injuries in shootout with terrorists. The injured were rushed to a nearby medical centre for treatment,” the statement said.
The security forces also seized a suicide jacket and explosives during the operation.
The terrorists had taken a five-marla portion on rent for the last two months. The house owner, Hafeez, a resident of Ghazi Raod, had rented it to Azeem two months ago. The personnel arrested Azeem from the house and recovered three suicide jackets, explosive material and weapon from the house.
