ISLAMABAD – A recent survey has revealed that thousands of children studying at government schools in the federal capital have not been provided with course books.
The reports said that the new academic session commenced from April 11 at schools but still 40 per cent students have not been provided with course books till now. These students are compelled to attend their classes without their course books.
National Book Foundation and the Department of Education are responsible for providing books to the students of educational institutions but they proved to be incompetent in performing their duty. The students are suffering due to delay in acquiring their text books due to negligence of the two departments almost every year.
State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry took serious notice of the situation and directed the National Book Foundation and the Education Department to ensure provision of books at the earliest possible.
The Education Department has said that the National Book Foundation was given directives to complete the publishing of the course books in time so that the students could be furnished with their individual set of course books with the beginning of the new academic session.
Despite these directives the National Book Foundation has not delivered the books to the respective educational institutions. According to a senior officer of the National Book Foundation, the students of these schools will be provided with the course books by the end of this month.
The official also said that the foundation has setup its printing press to eliminate the issue of publishing. In this regard the PC-1 has been formulated and Rs nine million will be spent on the publication of the required number of books.
